Privacy policy

We collect as little as possible, explain it plainly, and never sell what you share with us. Last updated March 2026.

Information we collect

We collect very little, and only what helps us publish and improve our guides. If you subscribe to Pine Notes or write to us, we collect the details you choose to give us — typically your name and email address, plus anything you include in your message.

We also receive limited technical information automatically when you visit, such as your browser type, device type, general location at a city or country level, referring page, and the pages you view. We do not ask for or store payment details, and purchases always happen on the retailer's own website.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use essential cookies to keep the site working, and analytics cookies to understand which guides readers find useful. Affiliate partners may also set cookies when you follow a product link so a retailer can attribute a purchase.

You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some preferences may not be remembered.

Analytics

We use privacy-respecting analytics to see aggregate patterns — how many people read a guide, which sections hold attention, where readers arrive from. This data is reviewed in aggregate and is never used to build advertising profiles or sold to anyone.

Email subscriptions

If you subscribe to Pine Notes, we use your email address for one purpose: sending the newsletter. We may see whether an email was opened or a link clicked so we can write better issues. We never sell or rent our list, and every email includes a one-click unsubscribe.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site are affiliate links, including links through the Amazon Associates Program. When you follow one, the retailer may place a cookie to credit any resulting purchase. We do not receive your name, address, or payment information from these purchases — only aggregate commission reporting. Commissions never influence our recommendations.

Third-party services

We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the site: web hosting and content delivery, an email newsletter platform, and analytics. Each processes data only as needed to provide their service. Retailers and affiliate networks we link to operate under their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to read.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, object to certain processing, or withdraw consent you previously gave. You can exercise any of these rights by emailing us, and we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We will never treat you differently for making a request.

Data protection

Information is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with reputable providers that maintain their own security practices. We keep personal information only as long as it serves the purpose it was collected for — newsletter details until you unsubscribe, correspondence for as long as it is useful to answer you well. This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update the date below and, where appropriate, note the change in Pine Notes.
